You will come in a little before the scheduled time to take the exam. The person in charge will verify your credentials and identity. Then you will sit down to begin the test on a computer.

How does the exam work?

Reading

This test will involve reading everyday documents and answering questions.

For each question, there are four answer options, but only one is correct. A correct answer gives you one point. If your answer is wrong or if you don’t answer, you get no points.

You will be able to navigate freely within the questionnaire. Be careful though because your time is counted. Remember to check the remaining time with the stopwatch.

Listening

You will hear audio documents from everyday life and answer questions.

For each question, there is a choice between 2, 4, or 5 answers but only one answer is correct.

You will have to answer as you go along because it will not be possible to go back.

Writing

Instructions: Write the continuation of an article (80 words minimum)

In this activity, you must propose, in a coherent and relevant way, the continuation of a beginning of text by taking care to bring details, explanations, and new information not found in the statement. The objective of this activity is to convey information.

Instructions: For this test, you will be asked to express and justify your point of view (about 200 words) based on a short statement.

The objective of this activity is to present a point of view. Based on the statement, you will have to write a text to explain why you agree or disagree, giving arguments and examples.

You can write directly on the computer. If you are not used to French computer keyboards, we advise you to practice before the exam so that you don’t lose time on the day.

Speaking

Section A TEF Canada

During each test, you will have to participate in a role-play on a given subject. You will have to read a short document (an advertisement, a classified ad in a newspaper, a job offer, or a leisure offer) from everyday life and exchange it with the examiner.

Instructions: Obtain information (5 minutes)

Your objective is to obtain as much information as possible about an advertisement or an activity that is proposed to you! You will have to ask your interviewer questions or rephrase his or her answers to obtain more information.

Instructions: Argue to convince (10 minutes)

Your objective is to present an activity to your interlocutor and find arguments to persuade him/ her to participate! You will have to give your opinion and illustrate your words with examples.

END OF EXAMS AND RESULTS

The exam is over after the 4 tests. Then you will have to wait 4 to 6 weeks before receiving the results with your official certificate by email from the CCI.

Each certificate is detailed and personalized (with your photo and signature).

For each test, it specifies:

  • the number of marks obtained,
  • the level reached,
  • a description of your actual competencies in general French

The results are valid for two years. You may retake the test as many times as you wish, with a 30-day delay between each exam.
