YOUR HOME STAY FRENCH IMMERSION IN Pont-Scorff
There is no secret formula to mastering a new language, but immersing yourself in local life is a great way to develop your skills. Whether it is during our one-to-one lessons, during mealtimes or on visits, there will be lots of opportunities to practice and enjoy conversations in French. You will quickly build the knowledge and the confidence to face everyday situations.
Together with my partner Isabelle, who has a passion for cooking, we chose this house with the idea of hosting guests. As mentioned, the second floor is reserved for your use only. The bedroom includes a double bed, with a newly purchased mattress, plus a desk and television. On the same floor, you will also find your own ensuite bathroom and a study.
You are invited to join us for mealtimes throughout your stay, and we will prepare a varied selection of local and international cuisine. There are plenty of leisure activities on offer too. From excursions to nearby places of interest, sports (kayak, walking etc), escape games, board games or cultural outings to the cinema or theatre, there’s something for everyone in this region.
Please note, that whilst smoking is not allowed inside the house, you will be welcome to join Isabelle in the garden, should you wish to smoke.
We will also look forward to introducing you to our well-behaved family pets, a dog named Naia and our cat named Kinai.
Hello, my name is Francis. After more than twenty years as a journalist, I wanted to pursue my second passion – teaching French – to return to the heart of my literary studies. In love with travel and international exchanges, I decided to open my house to all those who wish to learn French during a stay based on sharing and discovery.
Located less than 15 minutes from the Lorient train station, the house built in 1833 and recently renovated will seduce you with its cosy comfort and its 600m² garden which allows you to have meals outside when the sun is shining. The small stream running alongside the house and its vegetation are simply soothing.
LEARNING FRENCH
I see myself more as a language coach, rather than a teacher. For me, it is more about passing on the fundamental principles that are key to learning French, as well as helping to create an optimal learning environment that ensures the one-to-one coaching sessions are both informative, but most importantly, enjoyable. Calling on my experiences as a journalist and as a professional in a leadership role, I have acquired the skills to understand and adapt to the needs of my guests. With this personal approach to learning I will work to customise our programme to each person’s strengths, needs, skills, and interests.
Whilst making yourself at home here in Pont-Scorff, you will have access to the study each morning for our lessons and for further practice. Should the weather allow, I enjoy taking classes outside.
We will practice relevant written and oral exercises to make measurable improvements and improve your knowledge and confidence. And if you happen to travel with a companion, we’ll be glad to welcome them to our French language sessions, too.
ACTIVITIES
During your stay, I will also be your guide to discover Brittany. Even within Lorient and its surrounding areas, you will never be short of places to visit. There are a whole host of museums worthy of your ‘to do’ list including : at the Citadelle de Port-Louis the Musee de la Compagnie des Indes, the Cité de la Voile Eric Tabarly and the Sous-Marin Flore, a former submarine base, there are endless opportunities to learn about the local history.
With several ferries running daily, l’Ile du Groix, a small nearby island, is a popular spot with those guests that enjoy walks and bike rides.
A trip to explore the megalithic alignments of Carnac should also be near the top of your list during your visit to the region. This world-famous landmark is one of the most important centres of European prehistory in existence.
For those who crave the sea air, the long beaches of Quiberon, Guidel or Gavres are a must-see, followed by a pit stop at one of the many terraces along the way, of course.
Just a little further afield, the walled town of Vannes, with its fortifications, historic Saint-Patern quarter and port make for a great day out. Auray and Quimperlé are also worth exploring.
There are plenty of activities to entertain sport enthusiasts too, including local fitness centres and golf courses. Kayaking on the Scorff is amongst our favourite ways to spend our free time. There’s also a rental shop nearby for those who would like to join us.
