Classified as a « town of art and history », Oloron-Sainte-Marie is located in Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the Aquitaine region.
The ocean, the Pyrenees … and much more … Marianne has been a teacher for several years and is passionate about French literature and language. She is committed to passing on to her students (a term she prefers to “learners” because she is convinced that each one of them literally grows by studying) a lively, rich, sometimes colloquial, sometimes eloquent language. It is a whole culture that is revealed through it.
She and her husband live in a house in the historical region . They will welcome you with pleasure. Their daughter, a student, is present from time to time.
YOUR HOME STAY FRENCH IMMERSION IN OLORON-SAINTE-MARIE
Discovering a foreign language through immersion with a host teacher is like getting into the water to learn to swim. Staying at the edge of the pool would only give a small insight, often theoretical and sometimes limited. The experience is thought of as an essential component of the pedagogy.
Your room has a double bed and en-suite bathroom. A second bedroom is available on request. Your room and its shower room are totally independent.
The house’s location allows you to be independent during your free time: free public transport, train station, media library, swimming pool and/or tastings at Lindt! It’s between the Eiffel-built Pont Saint-Claire and Notre-Dame church!
We will adapt our program to the seasons, the weather, your tastes and your desires. We will cook with market products (with or without meat, gluten and dairy products), we will discover the city and the nearby region. We can practice yoga, ping-pong, walking, my piano will be at your disposal. My husband and I do not smoke but you can use the terrace.
As a teacher for several years in the French National Education system, a graduate of the Alliance Française, and an online teacher of French as a Foreign Language, I offer you the opportunity to use this knowledge and know-how in courses adapted to your level and your objectives. I like to use different types of material – recipes, songs, video excerpts, newspaper articles, etc. – to vary the approach.
LEARNING FRENCH
Living together for a week will allow us to make all the connections between the morning lessons and daily conversations. I will be able to sense, during the informal moments, which topics need to be addressed more precisely in order to make you evolve.
Living with your teacher will allow your learning to be not only intellectual but also sensory and physical. Qualifying a flavor during a tasting, acquiring the vocabulary of the body and movements by relaxing your ankles during a yoga session, soaking up the Pyrenees by walking its trails, exchanging with our librarian, meeting a farmer, walking on the Basque sand and let yourself be splashed by the ocean waves, breathing in the unique smell of an old church, will give another dimension to your discovery of the language and culture.
The two morning lessons will take place in the main room of the house.
ACTIVITIES
The Oloron-Sainte-Marie Tourist Office has created an orientation trail and published a document to accompany the tour. We’ll be able to explore the Roman and medieval Sainte-Croix quarter, admire the Notre-Dame church, cross the Eiffel-designed bridge, stroll along the Gaves (the local name for the rivers), and shop for fresh produce on Friday mornings.
Let’s study the tympanum of the cathedral, a Unesco World Heritage site. Let’s taste Jurançon wine and Ossau-Iraty sheep’s milk cheeses. Let’s follow in the footsteps of the Musketeers in the medieval town of Navarrenx Let’s discover the Verna cave, the world’s largest underground chamber open to the public Let’s take a stroll along the Basque coast Let’s visit the Château de Pau, birthplace of Henri IV, and stroll along the majestic Promenade des Pyrénées.
