Classified among the most beautiful villages of France, Saint-Antoine -l’abbaye is a medieval site, rich in the history of the monks who settled there. The proximity of the Vercors massif allows to admire superb landscapes and to hike on magnificent paths.
Marianne has been a teacher for twenty years and is passionate about French literature and language. She is committed to passing on to her students (a term she prefers to “learners” because she is convinced that each one of them literally grows by studying) a lively, rich, sometimes popular, sometimes sustained language. It is a whole culture that is revealed through it.
She and her husband live in a completely natural house, 500 m from the village. They will welcome you with pleasure. Their daughter, a student, can be present from time to time. You will be able to enjoy the incomparable warmth of the wood stove as well as the inimitable redcurrant jelly from the vegetable garden! Your room and its shower room are totally independent.
YOUR HOME STAY FRENCH IMMERSION IN SAINT-ANTOINE-L’ABBAYE
Discovering a foreign language through immersion with a host teacher is like getting into the water to learn to swim. Staying at the edge of the pool would only give a small insight, often theoretical and sometimes limited. The experience is thought of as an essential component of the pedagogy.

Your room has a double bed, a mezzanine can accommodate your children if you want to come with your family; a second room is also available if you want more space.
We will adapt our program to the seasons, the weather, your tastes and your desires. We will cook with market products (with or without meat, gluten and dairy products), we will discover the village and the nearby region. We can practice yoga, ping-pong, walking, my piano will be at your disposal. My husband and I do not smoke but you can use the terrace.
As a teacher for several years in the French National Education system, a graduate of the Alliance Française, and an online teacher of French as a Foreign Language, I offer you the opportunity to put this knowledge and know-how to use in courses adapted to your level and your objectives. I like to use different types of material – recipes, songs, video excerpts, newspaper articles, etc. – to vary the approach.
Living together for a week will allow us to make all the connections between the morning lessons and the daily conversations. I will be able to sense, during the informal moments, which topics need to be addressed more precisely in order to make you evolve.
LEARNING FRENCH
Living with your teacher will allow your learning to be not only intellectual but also sensory and physical. Qualifying a flavor during a tasting, acquiring the vocabulary of the body and movements by relaxing your ankles during a yoga session, soaking up the Vercors by walking its trails or cross-country ski tracks, exchanging with our librarian, meeting a farmer, breathing in the unique smell of an old church, will give another dimension to your discovery of the language and culture.
The two morning lessons will take place in the main room of the house or in the office.
ACTIVITIES
The Tourist Office of Saint-Antoine-l’abbaye has created an orientation course and published a document to accompany this visit. We will be able to walk through the village, admire the abbey church, get lost in the goulets (covered streets), stroll on the abbey square, do our fresh produce market under the old market hall.
Pont-en-Royans and its hanging houses, the gorges of the Bourne so typical deserve a detour.
The Vercors Massif and its 4,600 km of marked trails await us!
The Couvent des Carmes knows how to highlight its historical heritage with contemporary art exhibitions, like a question and answer game.
We will be able to walk in the charming city of Romans/Isère, stroll in its pedestrian streets, discover its Collegiate Church, walk on the promenade of the banks of the Isère and maybe do some shopping at the Village des Marques.
