Hello everyone!

This time, I would like to introduce you to the number one ancient monument in France: the Pont du Gard.

Pont du Gard

Located in the South of France, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, this magnificent aqueduct, 250 meters long and 48 meters high, was built around 50 AD by the Romans.

Its use: to carry water for nearly 5 centuries from Uzès to Nîmes, a Gallo-Roman city.

The Pont du Gard spans the river Gardon. This magical river rises in the High Cevennes and flows into the Rhône.

It is the highest bridge-aqueduct of its time and the best preserved with the three superimposed arches that have stood the test of time. It has been a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1985.

Around the bridge, the visitor will marvel at the Mediterranean vegetation with the garrigue and the holm oaks. A walk along the path of the remains offers the possibility of reliving the history of this ancient bridge. Along the path, the walker will discover fragments of walls, arches and tunnels in the middle of the vegetation…
